About us: The Centre for Policy is a Shillong-based think-and-do tank established by the Living Roots Foundation. The Centre collaborates with international organisations, government bodies, academic institutions, and civil society to advance meaningful and sustainable progress in Meghalaya and beyond.

The Centre is the implementation partner of the Young People’s Action Group (YPAG), a pioneering initiative supported by UNICEF that brings youth voices to the forefront of climate resilience, healthcare, and community well-being.

The Centre is inviting applications for key positions to help drive this mission.

About the Role: The Programme Associate will be the operational backbone of YPAG, supporting research, coordination, and youth engagement activities. This is a short-term, contract position fixed for the duration of the programme (6 months), with the possibility of extension upon advance notice. This role is ideal for early-career professionals eager to gain experience in climate and health policy while working in a dynamic, youth-driven environment.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Support youth dialogues, surveys, and outreach campaigns.

  • Conduct research and prepare policy notes and evidence briefs.

  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of climate-related policies affecting healthcare and well-being.

  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, workshops, and advocacy events.

  • Manage digital advocacy and communications to amplify the Centre’s work with its partners.


Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental studies, social sciences, or related disciplines.

  • Strong research and writing skills.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • 3 years of full-time experience in youth engagement, advocacy, or programme coordination.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.

  • Collaborative mindset and cultural sensitivity.

  • Commitment to child rights, equity, and culturally grounded approaches to resilience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in public policy, public health, environmental science, or related fields.

  • Proven leadership in climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, or healthcare resilience.

  • Demonstrated experience running programmes with civil society organisations, state governments, or international organisations.


Compensation:

  • Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience and prevailing standards among civil society organisations in Meghalaya.

 

Note: 

  • This position will be based in Shillong, India, with frequent travel throughout Meghalaya.

Screening Process for Programme Associate role

  • Candidates for the Programme Associate role will be required to undertake a screening process to be considered for selection.

  • The Centre will reach out to applicants with an essay topic (to be communicated directly). Candidates will have 3 days to complete and submit the essay.

  • All submissions must be the candidate’s own original work. Plagiarism or the use of AI tools to generate content is strictly prohibited. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification from the selection process.
